Northeast Biodiesel will make 5 million gallons of sustainable biodiesel from recycled vegetable oil and animal fat to be used in diesel engines and oil heat systems. Biodiesel made from recycled vegetable oil and animal fats reduced our dependence on fossil fuels, reduces carbon emissions over its lifecycle, produced 5.2 units of energy for every unit of energy invested in producing it, reduces air pollution, and reuses a waste product. Northeast Biodiesel will also create 24 living wage manufacturing jobs in Franklin County MA. Co-op Power, a consumer-owned sustainable energy cooperative, is the majority owner. After ten years, the plant will be 30% owned by its workers and 70% owned by Co-op Power.
