| The Basics | The Greening Greenfield Energy Committee (GGEC) is a citizen committee that works toward building a sustainable Greenfield so that current and future generations can sustain and enjoy life in this beautiful abundant valley. |
| The Challenge | On a global level, climate change is happening faster than anticipated, oil supplies are shrinking while demand is growing, and population is exploding. Locally, we are already experiencing higher energy and food costs. |
| The Solution | Greenfield must join the international community, thousands of cities and towns, and millions of people around the world that have already begun to act to make our world more sustainable. As Margaret Mead so poignantly stated “A small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” |
| Our Strategy |
In February, 2007, the GGEC launched the Greening Greenfield campaign in collaboration with the Town of Greenfield to achieve its goals. We will collaborate with individuals, groups, businesses and our town government to write and implement a long-range working document which will guide us toward a sustainable future. We will use cooperative learning, public relations and advocacy and bring financial and other resources to the table. We know that we can use existing technologies to reduce our need for costly fossil fuels, and we can build new sources of energy that do not emit toxic or climate change emissions. We can create jobs – green collar jobs – that will promote equity and clean air, water and food, and the goods we need. We will build on good work already available, and seek opportunities and resources to help us achieve our goals. |
